Donnelly Lakes is a 40 hectare former farming property, surrounded by state forests.
As a registered member of Land for Wildlife we take our responsibility in respecting the unique natural beauty of Donnelly Lakes seriously. The property is a showcase for native flora and fauna. The main lake in front of the chalets is 2 hectares (5 acres) in size. For 7 months of the year it is connected through streams to 3 other lakes on the property forming a unique waterway.
The interpretative self-guided bush walk with 25 stations allows our guests to explore the banks of the bordering Donnel Late in the winter the river may burst its banks flooding the lower paddocks providing a playground for many water birds. The bird-viewing hide over the second lake is a perfect place to view nature at its best.
The Lower Lake We understand that many of our guests are keen bird watchers. (Don't forget to bring your binoculars!) Since 1999, we have been surveying the birds at Donnelly Lakes. We ask any budding ornithologists to help us in this by recording any bird sightings on the property. The upper paddock is a favourite meeting place for mobs of kangaroos which tend to graze from late afternoon. The kangaroo viewing hide is designed to allow guests the opportunity to observe these iconic marsupials in their natural habitat. Alternatively, ask to borrow the spotlight so you may view them from your car at night.
The sand plains of Donnelly Lakes are home to an array of native orchids and wild flowers. This glorious display can be seen between September and November. |
